Description
4140 Chromoly Tubing & AISI 4140 Pipe Supplier
Overview of AISI 4140 Chromoly Steel
Grade AISI 4140 is a low-alloy steel that incorporates chromium, molybdenum, and manganese as key alloying elements. Compared to Grade 4130, AISI 4140 has a slightly higher carbon content, contributing to its excellent mechanical properties. This versatile alloy offers good resistance to atmospheric corrosion and reasonable strength, making it suitable for a variety of applications.
Key Features of AISI 4140 Pipe
The seamless pipes made from AISI 4140 exhibit an exceptional combination of toughness, strength, fatigue resistance, and wear resistance. To enhance its mechanical properties, AISI 4140 undergoes heat treatment. One notable characteristic is its self-scaling property, which reduces the need for additional treatment and associated costs.
- Manufacturing Process: AISI 4140 pipes can be produced by either hot finishing or cold finishing. The pipes are typically cast in ingots or strand cast, and after hot working, they may be cold finished. A protective oil coating is applied to retard dust accumulation during the forming process.
